I saw an invisible set engagemnt ring that I just love but my Mom said they're tricky and I shouldn't get it. What is she talking about.?
I agree that the invisible settings are beautiful rings but I know what your mother is talking about. The diamonds in an invisible setting are not held in place by prongs or channels as most diamonds are. Instead they are fit close together like a jigsaw puzzle into a metal frame. The probems arise through everyday wear when the diamonds loosen and then fall out. The only way to fix it is to send it back to the original manufacturer for them to repair it and that always takes time. Another problem is that they can't be sized up or down more than a half a size or again the diamonds will loosen or fall out., So unless your finger is the size of the ring in the showcase it it will have to be special ordered for you in the correct size.
